KEEPING DEPARTMENT PROCEDURE ON SARS
MAINTENANCE
SOP IN CLEANING THE EMERGENCY ROOM TRIAGE OR
HOLDING AREA
- Objective
- To prevent transfer of bacteria from SARS suspects
to Health Care Workers
(HCW) and other patients
- To protect housekeeping personnel by means of:
2.1. wearing Personal
Protective Equipment (PPE) before entering to the
triage, during the cleaning of triage
2.2. How to remove the
PPE properly after cleaning the triage
2.3. How to dispose the
worn PPE and the collected garbage
2.4. What to do after
cleaning the triage
- To disinfect the isolation Triage from Ceilling to floor
- To know the proper way in cleaning the triage
- Responsible Personnel: House Keeping Orderlies
- Procedures:
- Upon discharge of patients, maintenance on –duty will put “on” the
UV light.
- After 30 minutes, maintenance on duty will switch off the UV light
and he will notify the housekeeping office for start of cleaning
- The 2 Housekeeping orderlies will start cleaning the triage 15
minutes after the UV light was turned – off
- Completely worn with PPE, together with their cleaning tools and
chemicals, the 2 orderlies will start spraying Presept solution from
ceiling to walls, furnishings, to floors. Also the same procedure to its
comfort room
- Allow at least 20 minutes for the Presept solution to penetrate on
all areas. While waiting, gather all the waste and place it inside a
yellow plastic bag and tie it
- Then start scrubbing the walls, furnishings, as well as the
comfort room furnishings. Toilet bowl should be scrubbed thoroughly even
under the rim. Rinse well and dry it
- Mop the floor at least 2 times for a better and cleaner result
- Spray a 3 in –1 solution (air fresher-sanitizer-deodorizer –in
one) all over the room and close the door.
- Remove your PPE, and place them inside a yellow plastic bag and
tie it. Go to the shower room and take a shower for atleast 15 minutes
- After dressing up, place all the tied yellow plastic bags into the
infectious waste cabinet, wash your hands and go to your locker room for
15 minute rest.
